biography
Sofía Acosta is a Mexico City–based artist whose practice is grounded in the material traditions of painting while consistently pushing those traditions toward new formal territory. Working primarily with oil on masonite, she builds dense, layered surfaces that carry the memory of each application. Her work with interactive LED circuitry — embedded directly into the painting support — introduces a temporal and responsive dimension to what would otherwise be static objects.
The LED elements are not spectacle; they are structural decisions, altering how the painted surface reads under different light conditions and viewer proximities. The work asks whether painting can be alive in a non-metaphorical sense.
Featured at London Art Fair 2026, Business Design Centre, London.
